Chevrolet and GMC have halted the sale of the 2024 Colorado and Canyon midsize pickups and the reason why is unclear.

Prospective buyers have been frustrated at the lack of information regarding the roll-out of the 2024 model year. To be fair, Chevrolet and GMC have not exactly had the best luck with the all-new midsize trucks since they rolled out in 2023. From electrical gremlins to a UAW strike at the factory in Wentzville– whatever could go wrong seems to be going wrong for the Colorado and Canyon.  That’s not even mentioning all of the dented roofs.

To put it mildly, speculation about what’s going on has been off the charts.

But then today, February 19th, 2024, a little more clarity emerged when General Motors sent the following “Stop Sale” order to all dealers regarding the 2024 model year Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon.

The 2024 Colorado and Canyon Stop Sale/Delivery Order Announcement

STOP DELIVERY ORDER

Effective immediately, we have elected to stop the delivery of certain 2024 model year Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon vehicles.

The subject vehicles cannot be delivered or sold until further notice.

The Investigate Vehicle History (IVH) screen in the Global Warranty Management (GWM) system will be updated as “Stop Delivery” Type and VIN Status as “Incomplete Remedy Not Available” on February 19, 2024. The attached file includes the initial list of affected VINS. It is important to check the IVH screen in the GWM system to determine which vehicles are involved as the list or status may change.

We will communicate a follow up GlobalConnect message in the near future once all involved VINs are released from this stop delivery order.

How many 2024 Colorado and Canyon are included?

GM-Trucks.com can exclusively confirm that approximately 22,000 pickups are covered in the stop sale order. With such a large number and with no known 2024 deliveries, it’s possible this stop-sale order could encompass the entire 2024 model year run so far.

Why can’t Chevrolet and GMC Sell the 2024 Colorado and Canyon?

That’s the biggest mystery of them all. No reasoning was provided with the stop sale order issued. And with no idea of what’s wrong, speculation on when these pickups could be released is just that…speculation.  Some customers who recently ordered their trucks have been given a 4-6 months wait before prospective delivery- and that’s not including this new stop order. So when these trucks start flowing to customers is anyone’s guess.

Stay tuned for more details as we learn about this situation.
