Earlier this month, we reported that Chevy had an even more extreme version of its upcoming Silverado ZR2 in the works. Our spy shots showed a truck with a beefy bumper and a design similar to “The Beast” truck that GM showed off at SEMA 2021. Muscle Cars & Trucks recently took the time to make sense of the spy shots and of the upcoming Silverado ZR2. Expect to hear more about the truck as we approach the 2023 model year.

As MCT notes, the 2023 Chevrolet Silverado ZR2 Bison will be upgraded in a similar fashion to its Colorado counterpart, which means big improvements for body protection, wheels, and more, but no powertrain updates. Chevy will again be partnering with American Expedition Vehicles (AEV) for the build, just as it did for the Colorado, which could eventually provide standalone trades for the Silverado ZR2.

The first-ever Silverado ZR2, Chevy’s flagship off-road truck, makes its official racing debut in the Best In The Desert King Shocks Laughlin Desert Classic. Links between the production Silverado ZR2 and the race truck are significant as they share most major chassis and drivetrain components.

Though the Colorado ZR2 Bison is a popular, successful truck for AEV and Chevy, it’s out of line with the direction the rest of the industry is headed. MCT points out that Ford and Ram are focused on high-speed off-roading, while the Colorado ZR2 Bison and upcoming Silverado ZR2 are aimed at the rock-crawling crowd.
