What Are Power Steering Assist and Power Brake Assist?

Power Steering Assist and Power Braking Assist are vital systems in the Silverado and Sierra, enhancing driving safety and comfort. Power Steering Assist reduces the physical effort needed to turn the steering wheel, which is particularly beneficial at low speeds or when maneuvering in tight spaces. It employs electric systems to assist the driver, improving maneuverability and responsiveness.

Power Braking Assist, on the other hand, enhances the Silverado and Sierra’s braking capability. It ensures that even with a light press of the brake pedal, sufficient force is applied to the brakes. This system is crucial for effective braking, especially in emergency situations, providing better control and reducing stopping distances.

What’s Causing The Issue?

GM Engineering has determined that in some pickups, there may be a high resistance on the “G132″ and/or ” G133″ grounding straps located behind the front wheel liners on the passenger side of the vehicle.

According to GM-Techlink, along with reduced or lost Power Steering Assist and/or Power Braking Assist, “DTCs B127B (Rearview Camera Input Signal Circuit), B1325 (Control Module Power Circuit), B3205 (Driver Window Motor), C116C (Front Brake Pad Wear Signal Circuit), C1595 (Trailer Brake Signal to Trailer Brake Power Control Module Circuit), P25A2 (Brake System Control Module 1 Requested MIL Illumination), U0420 (Invalid Data Received from Power Steering Control Module) and/or U0422 (Invalid Data Received from Body Control Module) may be set.”
