Starting today, heated and ventilated seats will no longer be offered on several Chevy and GMC vehicles. Heated steering wheels get the cut next Monday and all changes are expected to run through at least the 2022 model year. Buyers affected by the shift will receive credits ranging from $150 to $500. Automotive News obtained a copy of a letter sent to dealers outlining the change, which is in response to ongoing supply chain issues related to the microchip shortage.
Several 2022 Chevy and GMC vehicles are impacted by the change, including the Chevrolet Blazer, Equinox, and some Silverado trims. The GMC Canyon, Terrain, and select Sierras are also included. According to Automotive News, more than a dozen models will be impacted by the shift. Motor1 confirmed that some Buick and Cadillac models will lose heated seats and steering wheels, but we don’t know which ones will see the cuts just yet.
GM says that it’s looking into the possibility of retrofitting necessary components to enable the features after the fact as more parts become available. Though discouraging for hopeful buyers, especially those that live where the air hurts their faces, GM’s tough decisions allow it to keep production lines rolling.
