Chevrolet is cutting the price of the Silverado EV RST by a not-so-insignifigant $10,000- all while keeping every feature that makes it an interesting next generation pickup.
As someone who was an early adopter of GM’s electric truck offerings by purchasing the GMC HUMMER EV Edition 1, I’ve been excitedly awaiting more mainstream EV trucks to hit the market. That’s why I jumped at the chance to pre-order Chevrolet’s upcoming Silverado EV RST just a few weeks ago. And Chevy’s latest announcement today providing new details on this range-topping model has me even more stoked for delivery.
The big headline: The Silverado EV RST will now offer a whopping 440 miles of range – a 40 mile increase over Chevy’s initial estimates. For someone like me who enjoys frequent road trips in my HUMMER EV, that extra range is a game-changer, allowing me to go even farther between charging stops. While the Silverado EV uses the same 212 kWh Ultium Battery as our HUMMER EV, Chevrolet has paid more attention to the aerodynamics and vehicle control systems to gain that extra few miles.
The bigger headline: This additional range is paired with the announcement that my pre-ordered Silverado EV RST’s price just dropped by $10,000. The Chevrolet Silverado EV RST will now list at $94,500, down from the initial $105,000 price estimate Chevrolet gave us two years ago.
For GM truck enthusiasts hesitant about making the switch to electric, the Silverado EV RST is shaping up to be a serious head-turner. Packing 754 horsepower and a monstrous 785 lb-ft of torque in “WOW” mode, it retains the rugged capability we expect, with towing up to 10,000 lbs and a 1,300 lb payload capacity.
Yet it also brings innovative new tricks to the table for traditional trucks. Four-wheel steering will be standard, promising exceptional maneuverability around town – a virtue I’ve grown to appreciate in my HUMMER EV’s tight turning radius. Chevy is also including its Multi-Flex Midgate and tailgate combo, which extends the bed to a cavernous 10 feet, 10 inches when opened – unmatched flexibility no competitor can claim.
The tech on offer looks straight out of a sci-fi film, with massive screens including a 17-inch infotainment display, 11-inch digital instrument cluster, and 14-inch head-up display. Gotta-have features like Super Cruise hands-free driving (which now works while trailering) and Chevy’s latest safety suite make this a true tour de force.
For those seeking ultimate electric truck capability, range, and forward-looking style, the 2024 Silverado EV RST is clearly setting its sights on a premium, halo positioning. With an MSRP of $94,500 before delivery, it’s priced as a flagship offering – but one that, based on this latest news, could sway even die-hard truck fans to go electric. As someone with experience in GM’s HUMMER EV and now eagerly awaiting my Silverado EV, I can attest that this is shaping up to be a new breed of truck.
