Motor Trend has confirmed that the new Silverado equipped with the 2.7T 4-cylinder engine is quicker than some V6 trucks the publication has tested.
The publication tested a 2020 Silverado 1500 RST. Motor Trend’s tester hit 60 mph in only 7.1 seconds. That is nearly a second quicker than a Ford F-150 XL with a 3.3-liter V-6 the group tested. It is about a half-second quicker than a Ram 1500 Tradesman with a 3.6-liter V-6 MT tested. The 2.7T was also quicker than a 4.3-liter equipped Silverado.
How does it stack up to the Silverado with the 5.3 V8? Shockingly close. The 5.3-liter Silverado LT Trail Boss (with the eight-speed automatic) reached 60 mph in 6.7 seconds.
What MT found most appealing about the engine is its amazingly flat torque curve. This truck has all of its torque at just 1500 RPM. MT also says the transmission does not hunt for gears. They found it quiet and very real-world useful.
