When it goes on sale this fall, the HUMMER EV Pickup will come standard with an “Extreme Off-Road Package”. Later in 2022 and 2023 as more trim levels of the all-electric super-truck and SUV go on sale, that package will be optional and something buyers can opt to pay extra for if they intend to off-road their new HUMMER EV.
GMC has been marketing the HUMMER EV Extreme Off-Road Package as part of the Edition 1 and featuring it while marketing the HUMMER EV Pickup and HUMMER EV SUV. Although we’ve heard the name mentioned multiple times, we’ve never been quite sure what this package offers that different from what the HUMMER EV will come with standard. Now we know.
Our last exclusive report detailed how we know the HUMMER EV Pickup will weigh a massive 9,000+ lbs.
HUMMER EV Extreme Off-Road Package Features & Upgrades
We’ve learned that the Extreme Off-Road Package on the HUMMER EV will feature these changes and upgrades. The features are listed in no particular order and are preceded by the RPO code that the feature will be associated with in paratheses.
- (RCS) 18″ Black aluminum wheels with machined accents
- (QMG) LT 305/70/R18 Goodyear Wrangler Territory MT Tires
- (NZZ) Skid Plates – Front Differential, Battery, Rear Differential
- (G93) Electronically-locking front differential with Heavy-Duty Ball Spline Half Shafts
- (G94) Virtual electronic-locking rear differential with Heavy-Duty Ball Spline Half Shafts
- (UXA) Forward and rearward underbody cameras
- (BG9) Rubber Flooring with rubber inserts
- (BKD) Premium Floor Liners
It’s worth noting a few things from this list. The equipped 35″ Goodyear’s are not the maximum tire size GMC has said the HUMMER EV can handle, which is 37-inches. The driveline components have also been beefed up with HD half shafts to handle the grueling torque figures the Edition 1 is rated to produced (11,500lb-ft), which isn’t all that surprising.
The HUMMER EV Extreme Off-Road Package also features two extra underbody cameras for even more visibility from the driver’s seat. It’s unclear where exactly those cameras will be mounted but we can note they will come with lens protectors and lens washers. The extra two camera views will be a part of the HUMMER EV’s “UltraVision” package, which includes HD Surround Vision with Trailer View, A Bed View Camera, and Rear Camera Mirror.
We’re also learning about how the floor will be covered on the Edition 1. If we read the specs right, it seems like the entire floor will be rubberized. It’s possible this will allow for it to be cleaned off with a hose.
Since the HUMMER EV will be all-electric, the idea that the front and rear differentials will lock as you might traditionally imagine goes out of the window. “Virtual” lockers are the new buzzword and indicate axle locking will be done by computer, instead of mechanical means for the rear axle. In the front, it seems that a real locking mechanism will still be part of the equation.
The Edition 1 and the HUMMER EV Extreme Off-Road Package clearly mean business.
GMC Spokesperson Mikhael Farah comments that: “The GMC HUMMER EV Edition 1 Pickup comes standard with the Extreme Off-Road Pack. On the GMC HUMMER EV SUV Edition 1, customers may choose two different Edition 1 variants, one with the Extreme Off-Road Pack and one without. ”
