If you own a 2020-2024 Chevrolet, GMC, Buick, or Cadillac SUV or crossover, like the Traverse, Blazer, Acadia, Enclave, or XT5/XT6- you might have noticed the little logo that is supposed to illuminate on the ground when you approach your rear liftgate- well, doesn’t illuminate. Or at least not consistently. Here’s why and the fix.

PIT6116 – Hands Free Liftgate Logo Inoperative

General Motors has released PIT6116 as preliminary information for this issue. This PIT was created on 1/24/2024. This article references version 1 of the PIT.

Vehicles Affected

2020-2024 Models of

  • Buick Enclave
  • Cadillac XT5 & XT6
  • Chevrolet Blazer
  • Chevrolet Traverse
  • GMC Acadia

Condition

The hands-free liftgate logo may be inoperative. The hands-free liftgate will work. You will also be able to command the lamp on. The lamp may work with one fob and be inoperative with the other.

Cause

The Keyless Entry Module is disabling the hands-free liftgate lamp

Correction

Dealers have been instructed to inspect the Keyless Entry Module with a diagnostic computer. They will inspect why the entry module has disabled the hands-free lamp. They will then reset the module and clear the disabled lamp reason. If the condition still exists- the technician will diagnose other reasons why the lamp does not illuminate.

What Owners Should Do

If you own one of the specific model year vehicles listed above for this PIT and have noticed this exact issue of the hands-free ground logo not illuminating consistently, or at all- take your vehicle to a dealer and reference PIT6116. If your vehicle is still under the bumper-to-bumper warranty- this problem will be fixed under warranty.
