GMC President Ducan Aldred has lifted the mandatory six-month hold on all HUMMER EV Demo Units- bringing hundreds if not thousands of HUMMER EV vehicles onto the market today.
Have you been eyeing a HUMMER EV but didn’t get a reservation? Does your local dealer have a demo unit on the ground? Are you interested? Today is your chance. Those unreserved demo units are now up for sale.
Why Are GMC Dealers Selling HUMMER EV Demo Units Now?
HUMMER EV sales over the past year have been slow, but not because market demand has been light. GMC has had a very tough time producing new HUMMER EV units due to battery shortages and parts restrictions. This is partly because GMC had to replace the battery on many of the first 800 units produced due to a sealing issue. Also compounding the sales problem is that many of the vehicles made in the last few months have been allocated to dealers for demo units. With production held for new batteries and a significant number of vehicles sent directly to dealers to be held up
The purpose of those demo units were to get HUMMER EV SUT and SUV models on the ground and into the eyeballs of GMC showroom visitors. Dealers could let just about anyone drive one and see for themselves what the all-electric “supertruck” was like behind the wheel. Some dealers have let reservation holders come and get a taste of their future HUMMER EV while they wait for it to be produced. Other dealers have stashed theirs away in the corner of the building to save for a future day. Today all of that strategy changes- as every HUMMER EV demo unit is available to be sold by dealers across the country. That means hundreds if not thousands of HUMMER EV SUT and SUV models could be for sale today.
How Can I Get A HUMMER EV Without A Reservation?
If you don’t have a reservation for a HUMMER EV, the sale of the dealer demo units represents a limited-time opportunity for you to buy one. If you’re clearly interested, it’s best to make your move quick. Call around and ask if your local GMC dealer has a demo unit for sale or a demo unit on the way that they would sell you. Expect a small markup, but try to pay MSRP if you can. Used HUMMER EV are selling for around $150,000 with about 10k miles, so you should not pay a huge markup for a brand-new vehicle.
Why Is GMC Releasing The Demo Units Today?
It’s safe to assume that GMC wants to get some EV sales numbers on the board to kickstart momentum. Rivals are selling thousands of EVs monthly while GM languishes in production startup hell. This may be the first move to get some traction and positive sales numbers on the quarterly report so GM can give investors good news for the end-of-the-year financials.
