GMC finally took the wraps off the 2021 Canyon AT4 this morning. The often teased but never shown new trim level was thought to be a Colorado ZR2 twin…. but color us surprised.
In reality, the AT4 just turned out to be a more off-road focused model with tougher DuraTrac tires, an “off-road” tuned suspension, four wheel drive with a G80 locker, and increased under carriage skid plates. The wider stance, unique bodywork, and advanced DSSV shocks you’ll find in the Colorado ZR2 are no where to be found.
That’s not to say the Canyon AT4 isn’t unique. With the GMC brand catering to a more upscale market, the AT4 Canyon has features you won’t find in the Colorado. A unique type of stitching and dark chrome finishes.
The AT4 will go on sale alongside a refreshed Canyon Denali in a few months.
Interestingly, the 2021 GMC Canyon AT4 was introduced in… Colorado.
“The new 2021 Canyon AT4 broadens the appeal to midsize truck customers who live an active lifestyle,” said Duncan Aldred, vice president of Global Buick and GMC. “Much like the Sierra AT4 has attracted new customers from outside GMC, the Canyon AT4 will attract outdoor enthusiasts looking for a premium midsize truck to GMC with the capability, technology and refinement they’ve come to expect.”
