Is K&N worth the money?

Recommended Posts

Hard question...

Worth the money?  Gas savings?  Power? Eliminate Replacement cost?

Yeah, I would say so if you are looking for all three.  Just for power or just for gas savings, maybe.

I like the FIPK, but it will take it a while to pay for itself.

I have the K&N direct replacement, not the whole tubeing and cone (FIPK)! It was the first thing I got for my truck, simply because I wasnt going to pay $15 bucks for a paper filter when I can pay $35-$40 for a K&N that I never have to replace!! The added performance, and fuel mileage isnt much, but at least its an advantage over paper! I dont know if it adds and feelable power difference or added MPG because I bought it and put it in as soon as I got the truck! I have heard the drop-ins give about 3-5 HP, definately not what they advertise, but once again, thats not why I got it!

the direct drop-in replacement filters are worth their weight in gold!! i feel. im a tech at pep boys and all day i get cars in with those crappy standard paper filters which i dont think the filter out much more than leaves, once a paper filter starts to get dirty, then the flow of air is greatly restricted, then you starve you motor of air. K&N filters not only let more air to the motor, but also filter MORE dirt than a paper, and they say that as they get dirty, they filter dirt even better than being clean. 40-50 bucks isnt muck to spend to keep the inside of a motor of a 10,000 or even $30,000 vehicle cleaner and running better!
