Home-made clear corners?

Recommended Posts

I've got a 2001 1500 Silverado Z-71 and I was wondering if there was a way to remove the plastic orange inserts in the corner light up front.  My buddy owns a Sierra and was able to remove the orange inserts in the headlight but opted to buy the clear corners.  Anyone have any ideas on how to do this without spending tons of cash?  I know the APC's are around $60 at my local truck performance store but I don't want to pay that much for something I know I can do by myself.

Checkout pacifie.com or procarparts.com, they sell clear corners on ebay too.  I've seen them close on ebay frm $25-$50 a pair, with the amber peanut bulb included  :)

BTW - Welcome  :)

The headlights are  a piece of cake.  I don't know about the corner lights.

I have pictures I can e-mail of the headlight broken down if you want.  E-mail me privately if interested.

I did my headlights tonight. Left headlight was glued by a gorilla, took about an hour to get it apart :) . The right one went very quick about 5 minutes. :)  I'm being a little anal in that I reglued them, taped them tight, and will let them dry overnight. I might just leave the corner/turn signal alone as to appear some what legal. In Texas must have a orange reflector up frount to be legal. Not that alot of people don't go total clear and get away with it, I just don't wanna risk getting pulled over.

Cyclic, so they are glued together?  That should make it easier.  What did you use to get them apart?  I have a feeling a heat gun might work but I will have to get my hands on one of those 'cause I don't think my sis' hair-dryer is that strong....even though it should be.  Ok then, thanks man

quit being cheap LOL  and just buy a set like the rest of us silverado folk

you won't get the silverado corners apart and remove the reflector without damaging them beyond repair.

25 bux from procarparts is chump change.

Judging by my corners, I'd buy clear ones. They used a different glue and I'm pretty sure they won't come apart with out breaking if ever. My head lights used a flexible silicon type glue. I used some heat and carefully pried with some screw drivers. Some times I used a razzor knife to help seperate the glue. The corners are glued hard, it's not flexable and is bonded almost like epoxy. So for the corner/ turn signals if you got to go clear buy new ones. Try just the head lights first, mine looks great and retains the little orange in the corner lights.

Well, I've decided to buy some off ebay.  Even with shipping, I think I can get a pair off there for nearly half of what I can get at my overpriced local truck performance store.  I also have flame gauges on the way which I am psyched about! :)

Thanks for the help from you guys, you sure make the newbie feel welcome! :)
