UPD Intake

Recommended Posts

Im just about to buy the UPD intake, but I have one question.  Has anyone had a problem with the taller airbox lid hitting the underside of their hood?  Does this really provide a noticable gain in power?  I do have my Mass air descreened and my EGR has been cut down.  Thanks!

I had no problem with hood clearance.  The instructions (at least for the Av) tell you to tilt the MAFS 45 degrees toward the firewall to make sure it clears the hood.

I noticed about a 5% improvement in mileage and more apparent torque in the 1500 - 2500 RPM range.

I'm very pleased with the unit - especially keeping the closed airbox since my Av's engine compartment likes to take showers every time it rains.

99Silver5.3,

I don't know about your exact model's configuration, but my 8.1L HD's UPD went in w/no problems.

Throttle response was immediately noticeable, but I can't say there were major mpg gains.

I have a TB spacer and an MAC Air dam and tube... The TB spacer puts everything forward about an inch.. Depending on the thickness and curve of the tube it should fit without hitting your fan shroud.. ;) In my case with the MAC.. the rubber boot from the tube to the Throttle body sits right there against the fan shroud. It sits right against it with the boot slightly bent in (doesnt add any restriction cause its hardly even bent...) Worst case you might have to take a notch outta the fan shroud if your tube doesnt fit.
