Puzzling situation - any ideas?

Recommended Posts

I'll make this as brief as possible.

2002 Chevy Silverado 2500HD Crew Cab

Code Alarm Surestart XL

Tekonsha Prodigy Brake Controller

The alarm was in a '99 Tahoe

Truck would not start, had to wait several hours, then would start. This was an intermittent problem. Alarm tech said it had nothing to do with the alarm, must be the GM Passlock System. Problem got worse, finally GM isolated the problem and replaced Passlock module. This happened while I was trying to sell the truck last Fall. I had the alarm taken out and put in my new '02 Silverado.

Here's my puzzling problems:

1. The alarm LED on the dash comes on sometimes all by itself when driving down the road (mostly during the first few minutes after starting the truck). I can make it go off by turning on the wipers or tapping the brakes (something that uses power). Alarm tech has double-checked ground and all sorts of stuff. All looks OK and wires are soldered, not crimped. He even called another shop to see if they had any ideas.

2. Last week I tried to start the truck w/auto start and it wouldn't start....wouldn't start w/key either. I had to wait 10 minutes before it would start with the key. Another Passlock problem? Code Alarm problem? It doesn't happen all the time but I can't have this happen and get stranded.

3. This morning, the LED display on my Tekonsha Prodigy brake controller started flashing something intermittently.

Could this be the truck computer module checking systems and causing the alarm LED and the brake controler display to come on?

Any ideas on this stuff?

Any help would surely be appreciated!

Thanks,

Hutch
