Who makes a steprail that doesn't mount to the frame or body mounts?  A friend said he seen some that mounted similar to running boards, I think, but he couldn't remember the company.  He said he would like to get a set of those for his truck if he could find any.

Anyone have any info?

Manik makes some and so does Westin.

I ordered my Westin Oval Tube steps the beginning of March and I still haven't got them yet...  The last I heard they should be available the end of May for my truck.  These are a brand new product from Westin...  I am going to wait it out because I like the idea of them being a 6" oval, so they should give decent protection to the rocker panels.

Here is the Westin Model:

I'm curious and I don't want to upset anyone, WHY???  Why would you want to mount it to the thinner body sheetmetal underneath??

I want my bars mounted to the sturdiest part of the vehicle...the considerably thicker, heavy duty frame!!!

Just curious, that's all.

I agree the frame is a great place to mount them, and definately the strongest.  I think if it's done properly, mounting to the bottom side would be strong enough.  My dad has a set of runing boards that are mounted to the sheetmetal (I think they may have a brace/strap that goes over to the frame though) on his '86 Dodge that he's had on there since he bought it new, and they are just as strong and secure as ever.
