performance chip

Recommended Posts

If it is a pre-96 truck, the chip can be swapped, after that, it needs a programmer to be connected to make changes. I have a jet chip, and yes, it was one of the mods that made more of a difference than most of the others. Jet has stage 1 (for stock vehicles) stage 2 for ones with a free-er flowing exhaust and cooler thermostat, and also one with a shift improver, which is a stage 2 that increases the line pressure in the transmission electronically. I got the stage 2. I would have gotten the shift one, but already had a shift kit. Takes about 15 minutes to put one in. It actually takes longer to get the computer out than to put the chip in.

thanks...I guess I should have said that I have a 2001 Silverado LT, K&N FIPK, dual exhaust and 285's BF Goodrich's.  I looked on the internet at the JET programmer and the hypertech, but was wondering how well they worked.  Thanks for the reply. :)

I have the hypertech on an '02 Avalanche.  I like it, it allows you to touch several settings, tire size, shift points, etc.  I have a 160 thermostat on the way, that is supposed to make an additional difference when you tell the reprogrammer to use the program tailored for 160.
