CAP COLOR

Recommended Posts

I am trying to get my topper painted the same color as the truck, the color of my truck is WA 8421 which is a fleet color.  The body shop at the dealership I bought it was very helpful and uses PPG paint.  They did a cross reference and came up with a mix color of 18980.  The custom paint shop uses Dupont paint and cannot cross reference the PPG mix number or the OEM number.  Can anyone help?

your best bet would be to buy the paint at the dealership or at another paint shop  like carquest or anyone like that in your area, they take it to the painter.

that will be the easiest way to be exactly sure you get the exact color of your truck.

A good body shop should have a color matching computer that will be able to give the exact mix for any color it reads.

My dealers body shop has one of these machines...  I think my salesman said they paid around 100 Grand for it.

Before I was able to find a truck the same color as the one I was trading, He told me this machine would guarantee a perfect match to any color I bought as far as painting my cap to match...

The problem is that their Dupont color matching computer is not giving them a matching mix code.  Any body shop that paints should be able to input the OEM paint code from your sticker in the glove box and get a mix code that matches the paint.  Body shops can also have a special scanner that shoots the paint to get an exact match, they shop that is painting the topper I bought doesn't have the scanner.  I've been to DuPonts web site and for $5.95 they will give me the mix code or not charge me if they cannot come up with it.  I called Chevrolet customer service and they were no help.  I'm about to start loosing my temper with these people, I paid for a color matched topper and I'm the one duing their job.

I finally found an 800 number for DuPont, after about 15 minutes of prerecorded messages I got a live body on the line.  In a matter of seconds she had the mix code I needed.  That's what customer service is all about.  :)
