Anyone seen these?

The Fram Sure Drain.  Wal-Mart sells them for around $11-12.00.  I know all the anti-Fram folks won't like them, but I think it's a good idea.  Only bad thing is the lack of the magnet that is on the stock drain plug.  BTW, SD-4, is the size needed for the 5.3 engines.  Check the Fram website for other applications.

I did see this in an advertisement not too long ago.  I think I prefer the standard plug.  I'd rather not worry about my oil dropping all over the highway some day on the road.  Nothing like a solid plug....and yeah, the lack of a magnet isn't the best idea.

The Fumato (sp?) is the one I think your talking about.  It replaces the factory plug and works by lifting a little spring-loaded lever and moving it over, opening the valve, and letting the oil drain out.

The Fram Sure-Drain replaces the factory plug also.  when installed, the protective cap goes over the end of it.  When you want to drain it you remove the remove the cap, thread on the drain hose in it's place, which has a piece that pushes in the spring-loded valve on the plug in the pan, allowing the oil to flow out and through the tube.

  • 2 weeks later...

Bought one today for the wifes car. 13 bucks at autozone. In retrospect it probably wasn't worth it. However I changed oil in my truck today and The nut job at the dealer must have put the drain plug back on with an air wrench. I almost never got the darn thing off. I will probably see the advantage with the fram thing next time when I actually use it too drain. If I like it I will get one for the truck. MAYBE THEY WILL BE ON SALE NEXT TIME! :)

If everyone's so concerned about the magnet, do you know that there's magnets that you can get that you stick on the bottom of your filter?  Then this will keep any metal particles in the filter and not send them through to your oil pan.
