Anybody installed a power sunroof on a Silverado?

Recommended Posts

I would like to have a aftermarket power sunroof installed in my Silverado ext. cab. I found a place to do it, but was wondering about any problems or lessons learned from somebody that already had it done. It sure seems the guage thickness of the metal on the roof of the cab is pretty thin. Are there any problems with this when cutting a big hole through it?

Don't do it.  They always claim to be as good as OEM but when I checked them out for my 300m I couldn't find anything that would look that good.  You're best bet would be to use the same OEM parts that are on the Suburban and Avalanche.  If you can find a shop to install the OEM parts I would consider it.

I know Classic Soft Trim (www.classicsofttrim.com) does leather interiors and sun roofs. You may want to check them out. I've seen a lot of their work and they do a really good job.

If I were you though and you wanted it to look totally stock, get the short overhead console with the sun roof option (comes with Homelink too) and get the switch for the sun roof and then talk to someone like Classic soft trim about using the factory switch when they install the sun roof.

I've seen the switch companies use for the sun roof and it is really cheesey. You could probably find a better switch at Pep Boys.

I have a powered sunroof installed this year on my truck.  This is not the spoiler type either.  It is an ASC sunroof that retracts into the roof.  Looks close to the OEM on the wife's Tahoe.  I found an ASC dealer in STL that installed it.  They said that they put extra bracing in to help support the weight of the glass.  They also cut down in size the overhead console.  You can view the ASC products on their website - www.ascglobal.com.  The only problem so far with the sunroof was that the glass needed to be adjusted to eliminate the wind noise.  The sunroof has been wonderful since the weather has warmed up.
