Spray-In Liner and Bed Caps

Recommended Posts

If you are going to install bed caps, and have a spray-in liner--don't you want the liner applied to the edge of where the bed cap will stop?  If they run the liner up and onto the rail, your bed cap will not sit flush on the outer edge.

Anyone have both?

I may be wrong TxDoc so dont make a decision based on this info! but I think with a bed cap you are ok as long as you take the spray on liner over the top of the bed ALL the way around...both sides, front of bed and on top of tailgate... as long as the height is the same at every point where the cap meets the truck.

TxDoc, I have a spray in liner (Line-X) which is "over the rail" and also have a fiberglass tonneau cover, and it works perfectly  :D  The seal on the fiberglass tonneau cover is the same as a bed cap, so yes, it will work!  I never have problems with water leaking in, and I don't have to worry about the rubber seal on the tonneau cover always rubbing the paint on the bed rails, it just rubs against the spray in, so I think of it as added protection!  Hope this helps  :)

TxDoc:

Of all the over-the-rail spray-ins I have seen, they sprayed the 2 side tops and the front top, and not the tailgate top.

I expect this isn't an issue as 1) the material is kinda thin on the rails, and 2) the topper rubber molding can compensate (mine on the ARE is hollow tubular, so it can cover a wide range of offset).

The ARE dealer replaced my flat-topped tailgate protector w/ the same one you see on the GMCs (at least '99 and '00 models) when they installed the topper, and also this particular model topper has an integral flat rubber molding, which, as Blue Bowtie says, should seal on the spray-in as well as the metal.

This is a good question to ask your preferred spray-in dealer to see how they handle it.

Good luck.

The top of my tailgate is also sprayed with the Line-X.  Since I have an S10, I don't have a tailgate protector installed, so the Line-X works great on it!  Just ask your spray-in dealer...they'll do it however you want it if they are good at it!  Mine is an extremely neat job...hopefully I'll have some pics of it soon!  :)
