Which color Nurf bars for my new truck?

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

Been reading alot on this web site since I'm a new 2002 Silverado 1500 extended cab Z71 truck owner and have never owned a truck before.  Looking at putting Nurf Bars on it and would like to know what you guys think would look best.

The truck is the light Pewter metalic color and I'm wondering should I put chrome or black Westin bars on?

I think I have decided on the westins as most on this site seem to think they are the best and just a simple bolt on install.

So, let me know what you guys think black or chrome?

Well, first think about what you want the truck to look like in the long run.  If you plan on putting a grille guard, and you want chrome, it is going to cost more in the long run.  The black ones are cheaper by about $100 for the nerf bars, and about $250-300 for the grilles.  So, you can save 400 bones by going with the black, but the chrome, IMHO, looks the best!

And there is also bed rails, taillight guards, and all kinds of other chrome/black accessories.  So when you choose one, you have to stick to it!

Good luck!  :)

Like was said before, it depends on the total look at the end you want.  In my opinion, all the accessories done in black looks the best, but it is totally personal preference.  On our truck everything is black except the toolbox which only came in aluminum in the size we wanted.

My last truck was a light pewter '00 Silverado 1500 excab 4x4 shortbed.  I put a set of Westin CPS (chrome plated Stainless) nerf bars on it and they looked GREAT!

It ties in well with the chrome strip in the door moldings.

That is what I'd recommend.  But definatly spend the extra money and get the chromed stainless over the chromed steel.  You'll never have any regrets.

I'm not sure what would really look best on pewter, because I've never really seen a pewter truck with a bunch of accesories on it.  But like was said above, once you pick a color, stay with it.  I think either one would look good, but I would probably go with chrome since it matches the bumpers on your truck.

I went to my local "toy store", took samples off the wall, and held them up under the truck.  The sales guy agreed with me - black looked best on my white Av.  Now if Westin could just make 'em!

As for pewter, I think there are some color combos that make it look more beige than silver.  I used to have indigo over pewter and it looked silver (when clean).  I'm not sure if black or chrome accessories will push the apparent color of the truck one way or the other.  Then again, maybe it's just my middle-aged eyes.

I actually regret keeping the stainless steps on my truck.. The dealer put them on as a demo and they are all scratched up and they never have kept the same shine..

I m switching to the blacks down the road since i didnt pay for these.. :)

IMO - blacks the way to go! Especially on pewter!!

That's why the CPS (Chrome Plated Stainless) are the way to go...

Plain stainless will require polishing to keep them nice.  Chrome is a very hard metal and is very resistant to scratching.  Chrome will not rust...  it is actually the "steel" under it that rusts...

we actually "chrome plate" our piston liners in the diesel engine plant that I work at because it is very tough.  If you chrome plate stainless you'll have a shine forever.  Not even a black powder coat can stand up to that...

Thanks guys for all the great responses.

I think I'm leaning towards the black.  I'm not the biggest chrome fan and I think black will look better on the truck.  Plus black has the added benefit of being cheaper.

Only question now is do they make the westin bars for the 2002 models yet or will the 2001 models fit the 2002?

I just got Westin Chrome Plated Stainless Steel (CPS) for my 2002 and I think they are the same as the 2001.  The Chrome looks great and goes well with my chrome/Stainless Gorilla Bars (side rail bars) on my White truck.
