Tires and Wheels

Recommended Posts

Hey guys

I'm sure somebody has already covered this before, but I'll be darned if I can get the search engine to work so here it goes.  Thanks for the help in advance.

First off, I'm going to get some new wheels for the truck.  I'd like to know what you guys are putting on these rigs, and where you're getting them from.  I'm assuming most guys are putting on 16x10's??

Second, I'm going to put some new tires on the wheels.  What's the biggest tire you can put on without rubbing the wheel wells?  265/75R16??  or bigger?  What kinds of rubber are you putting on?  I don't see many guys putting schwab's on.  Is there a reason for that?  Just curious?

Any other help you guys can give on this would be greatly appreciated.  I won't be lifing the truck at all anytime in the near future, and I'm running 3.73 gears on the 8.1/allison.  This is the GMC Sierra 2500 HD.  It came w/ the 245's.

I'm far from an expert on this, but I will give it a shot.  For the 2500HD most guys seem to be going with a 16x8" rim with a backspacing as close to 5" as possible.  If you go any less the 5" they won't clear the brake calipers and any more they may have problems with rubbing on the front.

As for the tires, 265/75's will fit no problem, and most are fitting 285/75's.  With the 285's you might have to crank the torsion bars a bit, or trim the front of the airdam.  I also think there is some sort of cable the needs to be zip tied back.
