Where in HOUSTON can I get my gears installed?

To anyone in Houston, I am looking for a recommendation on someone to do a top quality gear install at a good price.

I bought my 4.10 gears for my 2001 Z71 4wd from Performance Products out of their catalogue with the install kits.

4Wheel Parts is quoting me a price of ? for the install ALONE!!!! Plus they want to hold on to the truck for 4 days to do the work! That is LABOR alone, so SURELY that is an ABSURD price, and I can get it done elsewhere cheaper. SO I am hoping someone on this board can offer me someone (even better if the place is on the NORTH side of town).

About the only place I know of is right on the loop where it is still called the East Loop,I think.

I believe it's called Houston Wheel and Axle.I know it's a drive for you but they do good work.

My buddy had the differential in his '74 convertible Impala redone at Houston Ring & Pinion, N. Shepherd, 713-695-0169.

The did a good job for him. I called them today for a new axle shaft for my Suburban, and they were a little high compared to some of the others.

You might try Northwest Drivetrain, on FM 529. They have done ALL my u-joints for the last 5 years, which is about 12 all together on 3+ vehicles. Great price, great service, don't know if they do gears, though...

Hey kaspar, when you talk to them would you please ask them what the price would be if you bought the gears from them as a package deal front and rear (4.56 or 4.88). I don't know where you bought yours but I really don't want to give 4wp any more money. Also what about warranty?

You may not be able to just swap the gears if you go with 4.56 or 4.88, each carrier has a set range that will fit or else you have to change to the next size carrier. For instance, some carriers are only good for 3.73-4.10 gears. You may be OK since you already have 4.10s, but it's something to check into since that will increase the cost of the swap, just be sure to ask the shop about it.
