Bed Cap

Recommended Posts

I have been looking at fiberglass bed caps and wanted to know if anyone has had good or bad luck with any specific brand?  Just for the record I have been looking at an ARE.

I've got a Century Fiberglass. I really like the cap, but have not been able to find anyone that will order me a new side window for it.

The factory doesn't want to help either.

I have a Leer and really like it.  When it came in they installed it and I drove around for a few weeks with it and found a couple spots in the paint I didn't like.  Leer stood behind it and said they would give me ? or repaint it.  I sent it back (no charge) and they fixed it (it took about 2 weeks) and they reinstalled it for free.  This is my second Leer and am quite happy!!!

The paint flaws were so minor nobody else could see them unless I showed it to them....

While shopping, I found ARE and Snugtop to be top of the line, pricewise anyway.  If cost is a factor (as it was for me) the only fiberglass topper I could find with a good reputation and price was from Raider (www.raider.ca). For my short bed- ? with a free headliner, factory matched paint and a choice of flat or sliding window- ? installed. Most others were in the ? range before installation. And headliners, sliding window and 3rd brake lights were extra.

It's waiting in Pueblo for me to get it installed next Tuesday, so I have no review, but I'll definately post one here, good or bad.  Better be good!!! ;)

Well, I'm definately going to have to change my sig.

Picked up the topper yesterday, hated the safari rack and now have 2 boxes of PIAA lights sitting in my truck. I'd planned this look out months ago but boy upon execution....well, I should have gone with the Garvin/Wilderness rack because the Surco looked like a big POS sitting on my topper. At least they took the rack back, but now I have to decide what to do with the extra lights or hope I can send them back. I think another set on the brushguard might be overkill.

Anyway I like the topper. It seems very tight and I haven't noticed any leaking between the rain and a carwash.  The dealer who sells the Raider also sells Snugtop, Sportsman and Unicover and said for the money, Raider is the way to go and they have the best warrenty in the business.  Everyone else is paying more for a name. I guess 2 days is a little soon for a full review but it looks good and seems well built, it's the installation that I'll be checking closely.

Oh, and to compensate myself for not getting the rack and light scheme I wanted, I went next door to Discount Tire and finally got new wheels and tires which I'd planned on waiting till next winter for.

I'm going to post more tire info on the light duty page...

In my new popular mechanics mag I saw a new lower front air dam for the Silverado with two large round cutouts for the PIAA lights.  I think it was less than ? and looked alot better than the stock airdam.

(sorry DigUout, I forgot your truck was a'98 and this new airdam was for '99 and up)

That front air dam costs like ? from performance products.  I like the look of it.  A guy over on pickuptruck.com has it on his lifted Z71

One day i might get it and replace my factory fog lights with some piaas that dam looks nice

I'd looked at some air dams, but the lights from PIAA are the series 40 rectangles, and don't see any dams to hold rectangle lights.  I chose the rect.'s over round because I thought they'd look better on the '98 with it's straighter lines, and they do.

Still considering mounting one pair on the brushguard.  They'd help in the mountains with all of the deer and elk.  The truck looks so good with the new tires and wheels I'm not gonna stress about the lights.  A couple people have already asked if I got a new truck!
