Make Gmc Logo Black?

Recommended Posts

Hey guys,

i'm new here and i've been browsing trying to find information about getting a black GMC logo on my grill. i have a 2008 GMC Sierra Denali, i'll post pics of it later, but i came across various methods on this forum to change the logo to black from red ranging from paint, black tape, or just sending it to a paint and body shop. i was hoping some of you who have had this done would mind sharing information on how to do it? i'm pretty sure i'll just send it in to a paint and body shop as i dont want to screw it up myself but if it's easy enough i'll go for it. I'll post pics of my ride later, it looks great and with the logo black it will look even better!

thanks

HOW??

Welcome to the board! I've been contemplating this myself. I have Black Stardust (high metalic) stripes on my truck (see sig pic) and I have been thinking about having my vinyl guy put that over the gold Chevy logos on my truck. I'm changing my flares from the paint-matched stock flares to Bushwacker black pocket flares, so the black logos would help tie them into the theme. Anyway, as I said I will have my vinyl guy skin them in vinyl.

Welcome to the ZOO.

I've painted my Chevy bowties on previous trucks using Duplicolor and clear. They hold up very well to bugs and rocks. Scuff with a number 2 Scotch Brite pad, clean with alcohol, and spray several light coats of the base coat until you get full coverage. Since you are going with Black, you can do single stage or go with a clear coat. I like the clear coat method because it shines like it's wet once you let it cure and polish it a little.

Good luck.

Does that explain why you shine when you're wet - you're clear coated? [OOPS! Too much information!]

I'll try and get a couple pics if the weather clears up around here.

Nice Job Looks Good in the Photo.. How do you like how it turned out?

It looks smooth just like a factory paint job using several light coats..... However  , don't let the paint set up too long or you risk having the paint not break at the tape edges and it can peel away from the letter area. I had to touch up one chip that peeled away. That area ended up matching up colorwise, but it's not quite as smooth as the rest of the job.

I painted my GMC emblem black over the weekend. I just taped off the front of the truck and the guys at the local autoparts store recomended using a just a rustoliuem camo spray paint. I did flat black because i plan on getting some flat black wheels later. ill post a few pics, my girlfriend did all the work :jester: , she is more artistic than me and does much better detail work. I did like 3 coats and think it looks pretty good.

HOW??

Weird. I've been looking into this for my chevy bowtie for a few weeks. Two hours ago I found a guy on eBay doing just that, then I see your post. Must be karma. Anyway, the link is below. Hope it helps.

Here's the guy on eBay that is doing logos. He advertises Chevy bowties but I'm sure he'd do any logo. eBay Logo Painter

For $15 he'll factory paint and clear coat your logo. For those with chevies: For $20 he'll custom paint a new chevy bowtie (his description is HD plastic with mounting studs equal or better quality than the stock one) and send it to you. I'm waiting for a reply on a couple of cutom colors.
