Turkey Day Weekend In The Desert

Hi all,we go to California City every year for a weekend of camping and riding. It's about a 2 hr. drive from home and just north of Edwards AFB.This year the weather was unbelievably great.Nice evenings and warm days.Best of all almost no wind.We always have a group dinner sat. nite where everyone brings a dish and we sit and pig out.One of the guys deep fries a turkey in his propane powered pot and it always turns out great.

Our grandkids(all girls)look forward to this weekend all year and can't wait to do some riding. We have two grandsons but they're to little to ride and don't really like the desert,so the stay home in Mission Viejo(city people).

We have nicknamed this weekend the Burning Snowman campout(long story). You'll see a pic later.

My Burb performed flawlessly, pulled the trailer with ease even though it was loaded to the hilt with bikes, food and gear for everyone.I won't mention the mileage but that doesn't matter..

My fellow bike riders I apologize :D for living in an area where we can ride most any time thru the year...

Thanks guys,it was fun..my daughter and her girls love to go with 'grammy' and 'grampy' anywhere but especially when we go camping and riding.I figure the least I can do is to impart some of the knowledge and experience of my many years of being.Am I getting mushy? absloutely,I want them to say"grampy taught me how to ride''.... those of you with kids and grandkids know what I mean. The little one you see on the quad(in black riding gear) is 8 years old,her name is Emily, and is a little tiger, she gives her bigger sisters a run for their money and when she gets pissed look out..

Hey Gary can you be my grandpa for that weekend next year?

Looks like it was awesome. I did not get to ride thanksgiving day but I did ride the all day Saturday and some early morning riding Sunday. (I left before the drunk quad riders started showing up)

If you can get here next year I'll be happy to show you a fun time..you'd get a kick outa my grandaughters...I do

and you're smart to leave ,there are some guys who don't know the idea of trail courtesy and etiquette...that's how people get hurt..it's happened to me(head on @ 30),lucky I was on my XR600

Even though you didn't get to ride as much as you wanted to I'll bet you had a great time while were 'cause any time riding beats any day of sweeping your driveway

 Let me put a thought in your head...remember getting ready to go riding?,Cleaning the air filter, lubing the chain, checking the air pressure in the tires, checking for loose nuts and bolts, starting it to make sure it starts the day of riding.Getting your gear together..helmet,boots,gloves,etc. ...too many city folk don't know the fun we have...just typing this gets the shorthairs up

yup riding is only half of the fun. Getting the bike ready also relieves a lot of stress and clears my head.
