leaf spring removeal questions

Recommended Posts

ok so it's an '88 c1500 stepside..  I have 2" drop spindles in the front and 4 " drop shackles/hangers in the rear..  this was suppose to level the truck out.. the back still sits a little higher.. can I remove one leaf spring on each side? isn't there one that is a helper or something like that for heavy loads?  I don't load the truck at all..  help..  I'm looking for a cheap easy way to level it out..

You can remove a leaf from each side to get a little more drop. However, I would not recommend removing the helper spring. I would remove the second spring from the bottom. That way, you don't get a bouncy ride. You also have a few other options to gain a lower stance. You could have your springs de-arched. THis will allow you to keep all your springs and also have a better ride. You couls also purchase drop leafs. These leafs will probably be the same thickness as the stock ones but will have less arc in them. Then you could also go with a flip kit, but this will allow you to sit your frame on the axle, that would be too much drop. Either way, good luck with what you decide to do and let me know if you have any more questions.....
