Lazer detectors

Recommended Posts

I have had detectors since one of the first, the SuperSnooper back around '74.  Anyway, I used to have the best luck with Escort's and Passport's, then the Valentine 1 came out - wow this is one very sweet detector!  I have been using one since '97 and it rocks!  It has arrows which show which direction the radar is coming from, welll it's not perfect but it does work good.  I have the V1 mounted above the rear view mirror, plus the optional remote display mounted with velcro on the steering column right by the speedo - one glance down you can see the radar type+direction plus your speed.  Now laser is a bit harder to detect than any of the others, mainly because of the small beam - sometimes the beam may be on your lower bumper (I think they try to aim at the license plate area for a good return) and may not spill over to where the detector is located. So, my advice is that for areas that use laser, don't speed - and in fact it is probably good to not speed anywhere in/around the city (I don't, welll not over 5 or so anyway) - high traffic areas are just to risky, it's good to respect other drivers.  But, on the open road with little or no traffic when conditions are good, well it's probably OK to open it up a little if your tires, etc, are in good shape (and speed rated tires are best)  :)
