Project Update

Mad Dog

Recommended Posts

Yesterday I called 4WPW and ordered 35/12.5/R16 Super Swamper SSR's on Weld 16 x 10 Roadhawks. $2k, but worth every penny.

Now all I need is a lift, gears, front ARB, new Stainless steel toolbox ($$$), heavyduty winch bumpers, visor, rhino lining........and a second job !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

BTW, I would recommend Allen (ext 5110) at 4WPW, he knows how to do more than just read out of a catalog like most guys I talk to.

I'm calling him again today to buy the lift - 6" Superlift for the 2500HD.

Called Allen again today and ordered the Superlift 6" kit plus the skid plate and kicker braces. Also bought Superlift's speedo recalibration kit. He threw in red shock boots (instead of Superlift's yellow). Another 1.8k bucks......

I wanted 4.56 gears but he had me doubting that I had a 11.5" ring gear in the rear so I held off until I can confirm. I am 99% sure that the 2500HD with the 8.1L comes with the aluminum powder dense axle with 11.25" ring gear.

I guess I'll be calling him again tomorrow!!!

Mike,

2001 2500HD Crew Cab, 8.1L (10.6mpg is my best tank so far - only 1800mi.), 5sp allison transmission, 4 x 4 insta-trac xfer case, short bed, 3.73 gears (soon to be 4.56!), Onyx Black with the tan leather interior, ONSTAR, puny 245's for tires.

Not quite enough room for the 7 kids but thats what the CHEVY express 15 passenger van is for !!!!!!! (wish that thing had a BIG block................)

I tried to get Rhino Linings to spray an AMERICAN flag for a bed liner, no dice. I'm trying LINX.

That sounds great, I can't wait to see it. Whats a kicker brace? BTW....Why didn't you buy everything at once and get a package deal price?? Although your prices sound right.

I was just going to buy tires. Many companies are in the process of producing lifts for this truck so I was going to wait a few months to see who came out with what. But after ordering tires, I got the "bug".

I pictured myself sleeping out in the garage next to a new set of 35's that I couldn't put on my truck yet......not a pretty sight!!!!

I drove over a 100K mi with a superlift on my '95 Z71 without any problems (and I was HARD on that truck !) so I had some experience with superlift and was pleased with the quality.

The two kicker braces are just bars that run from the front axle assembly to a from mounted crossmember for extra support when you come down from catching air!!!!

BTW I have confirmied that I have a 11.5" ring gear in the back and a 9.25" ring gear in the front so I think I'll be calling Allen again today...........

Hey Mad Dog, are you planning on installing the kit yourself, or having someone else do it?  Planning on jacking mine in the near future, and wanted t know how hard it is to do.

Kania2k1,

I've been trying to get some feedback from the dealer about whether or not I do the install makes a difference on how much crap i'm going to get from the dealer if I need warranty work.

Getting them to commit to anything is hopeless.

I think I'll end up doing it myself and just deal with trying to get warranty work done later( maybe I'll never need it - I didn't on my '95 Z71).

Mad Dog, I don't think that the superlift kit requires you to trim or cut any portion of the diff housing, which is good news. I have the Rancho and it does require the trimmining. RCD also requires the trimming. The trailmaster does not require any cutting nor does the California Super Trucks kit. Quadcab4x4 has the superlift maybe he can tell us for sure. Can't wait to see your truck!
