Tow Straps

Well after this last snow storm, I have decided I need to purchase a tow strap.  Seems some people don't like the idea of getting pulled out with a chain.

I have a couple of questions for the guys who use tow straps

1)  How long does this strap need to be?  I figured between 20-30 ft.

2)  How high of a strength do I need?  I was looking at a strap that was rated at 30,000lbs.

3)  Are the loops on the end good enough?  Do I need to add any accessories on the end to make attaching the strap easier?

Thanks in advance for the advice.

I'm also in the market for a tow rope. I was looking at actual ropes that had hooks on the ends and were rated at 25,000 lbs. My cousin prefers straps. Is there any advantage to the strap? I thought the rope with the hooks would be easier to attach. The rope is designed to stretch a little and if it was to break, it would go one strand at a time with no recoil. I welcome any opinions.

I don't like hooks because if on comes loose on a hard pull (like snatching someone out of a ditch) you have a rope with a piece of metal on it flying towards on of the vehicles.

I would get the highest rated lb rating you can get.  My friends and I broke my strap 30, and two 40's.  Needless to say though, we were in there good.

Nothing works better than the sling shot effect though.  And I don't want a chain Smashing into someone and killing them if it breaks.

I found that crane straps work the best. I have a couple of them that I get from Ironworkers. They are all cloth with loops at each end. I usually put one end around something on the from and throught the loop and then hood the other ooop around my hitch (not the ball) the actual hitch. and I have never broken one yet. (knock on wood)
