ideas on sub box

Recommended Posts

since i've finally made a decision on my mids and highs and a nice amp i've been thinking about the future (sub time) and i'm only looking to install one 12" sub on the passanger side under the rear bench. so i was wondering if anyone out there has any ideas for a box design. the sub isnt choosen (since i have time) but if i can get an idea of what air space i'll be working with maybe it'll make it easier to choose.

I have a JL Audio sub that is not in use right now. It only takes 1 cubic foot of air space. I made a box, but it isn't the greatest for fit wise. It works well sitting on the rear seat, but I know that is not what you want. I just know that JL is one sub that doesn't take too big of a box and it is required to be sealed. One thing to do is when you build a box, silicone and screw it good, then get spray paint and paint the inside of the box. This will seal up any holes that there may be in the silicone. I have built a few boxes, and they are alot tighter with spray paint inside of them. Hope this helps a little.

i'm really looking for box designs.  i know how to build a box. there is a bunch of low air space subs out there, but if i can get a really number/size thing it would help narrow it down. but at this rate i wont have money for a while.  i saw a pretty nice design this one guy did with his 99 or 2000 ext cab. but the space under his rear bench looks a lot different so i dont think i can use his idea.

i'm not looking for a premade box and thats on the wrong side and your truck is the wrong year. all my hardware is going on the drivers side, the 12 disc changer, the computer, the dreamcast.  and the newer trucks have a different looking floor mine has more bumps and stuff which makes the sub box harder to design. i know i'm picky and all.

like i said wrong side.. 12 disc changer is already mounted under the drivers side rear bench. only one that they make that goes on the passanger side is for 1999 up. so i guess its time to get out the tools and start designing a box.

it wont be too hard. i just need to try and figure out the right air space for whatever sub i want. then get some carpet or other stuff.  its just been so long since i was into drafting so its going to suck to try and draw plans out.
