Alignment Specs...

Recommended Posts

I just cranked my stock keys to get a little bit of lift for the front of my Tahoe and have always been told to get an alignment done soon after. I took my truck to a local tire shop in town for the alignment and twenty minutes later they called me and said it was all done. I would have thought for something that out of alignment it would have taken a lot longer? All they said was out was the toe, Since I dont know much about alignments here is the sheet they gave me...everything look ok?

Everything looks OK, except for camber setting. It is within the spec, but usually you want the same (or as close to possible to same) number on both wheels, i.e 0.40 degrees for both wheels would be more like it. They apparently did not bother to reset it as it was pretty close anyway.

Same for toe, you want the same setting on both wheels, but 0.00 and 0.04 are very close and it is practically impossible to achieve the exact same settings on both front wheels.

The caster setting IS different or the two front wheels to compensate for the road crown. It is the caster setting that will cause the truck to pull to the side is adjusted incorrectly.

See, I have a hard time trusting those computerized systems, especially since every time I get an alignment done by one it doesn't track straight and I get uneven tire wear. The guy I USUALLY go to for alignments still uses the old-school tools and gets it damn near PERFECT every time.
