Oil Analysis

Recommended Posts

I Recently, received my oil analysis on my 2000 5.3L and with over 28,000 miles the report shows abnormal PPM of cooper (52).  So, what to do now.  I supposed it's possible the wrist pins still haven't fully broke in, but what if they are, then what?  Anybody else seen high copper counts with this many miles?

Maggot,

Nope, typical mileage on oil change is between 2,000-2,500 miles.  First change was at 1,000 miles followed by the second change at 3,000 miles then 2,000-2,500 since then.  Not sure what to make of the extra cooper.  I've also used either full synthetic or blended since the 1k change.  I only use the full syn. during the winter months.

You do have to do more than one test. I am not sure of what every component material makes up is on internal parts on the gen3s. That is what needs to be determined. It may be something ..it may not. Also how the test sample is taken can/may/could effect the results.

I see a trend..now I notice that the  people using synthetics and are running  tests are coming back with a high copper content. The dino users have been lower. Now granted the comparison is of 4 trucks that I can find owners willing to send off samples. I use dino oil and have 8000 miles with 8 oil changes to date, the two test so far 1 at 500M and one at 7000M.Last test had some hard pulling. Both came back great. Now on m old truck  I ran some super expensive  synth. oil, tried this extended drain deal and two tests both came back with elevated copper and water(I suspect condensation because the short work drive 3 miles round trip). I have gone back to dino and 3000m and the tests from that point on was back too normal.
