O2 sensors are in harms way

Recommended Posts

Didn't know quite where to put this or if it effects any other years or the 2500/3500/HD/SUV models.  Thought I would pass this on to you all so that you don't experience some lengthy downtime because of something that would cause an intermittent problem.

Today I was changing the oil at it's first 1000 miles on a 2002 Silverado EXT SWB 2WD.  Since I had to jack the truck up a bit to slide my fat butt around on a dolly, I decided to look around a little.  First observation was on the passenger side, the harness for the O2 sensor after the catalytic convertor was riding on the edge of the heat shield.  Further looking on the drivers side, the O2 sensor ahead the catalytic convertor had it's harness riding on the seam edges of the firewall and cab.  Both instance to fix was to slit a section of 5/16 fuel injection hose length wise on the inside natural curve and place over the edges.

My past experiences with O2 sensor is that they can be finicky and never cause the computer to flash a code that they are bad or the harness is, always the code points you some where else.
