2002 Yukon XL Vibration and Loss of Power

Recommended Posts

3000mi on Yukon XL,  When cold drive from anywhere from 10 to 30mi the vehicle starts to ride rough then gradually increases noise and feel (like your driving with your sunroof open at 90mph effect on your ears).  Loss of power is substantial basically have to floor it to maintain speed.  The tachometer does not vary but probally is not very sensitive.  It acts like it is dropping cylinders or scattering the ignition.  Then five minutes later back to its awesome self.  It does not repeat until three to four hour cool down.

Anyone come across this?

Can you bring a GMC product to a Chevy dealer for qarranty work?

Thanks much, Great site

Gary

Sounds like a PCM/electrical problem.  Probably something minor, but ya never know.

Yes, any GM dealer can work on any GM product.  Our local Saturn dealer will even work on GM's (Most GM dealers wont work on Saturns though)

I came across the GMC/Chevy warranty situation several years ago.  The GMC dealer had a very good service department, the Chevy dealer did not.  We had a Chevy.  Bottom line, the GMC dealer said they could work on the Chevy, but couldn't warranty.  They said that it would have to be paid out of pocket and we would be responsible for trying to get Chevy to pay for the repairs.  The way it worked was that Chevy can be only warrantied by Chevy dealer and GMC warrantied by GMC dealer, but GMC cannot warranty Chevy or vice versa.  This was the case about 8 years ago.  Not sure if that policy has changed, seeing that the dealer I am talking about now handles both GMC and Chevy.  You may want to ask the service writer to ask the manager.

Well took it to a GMC dealer two Chevy dealers said they were unable to perform warranty on a GMC product.

The tech (nice guy) had to drive it three times and finally it happened.  And he has no explanation for the problem.  No check engine light, no code.  Had a hand-held with him but it yielded nothing.  They have a call into GM technical for some answers.  Day 2 without my Beast.

How long could this could this go on before I take action?

And what action do I take?

Thanks

Nine days now without my beast  :(

They are looking at a oxygen sensor and or a transmission sensor but have to dupilcate it with a scan tool to take a snapshot and analize (sp) it further, but they need it to act up while so far no luck.  :D

I don't even have plates for it yet the dmv called and said we have your paperwork and your late.

I don't know abput your state, but in my state 30 days out of service (in the first year of ownership) definately qualifies for lemon law buy back, so if it goes that long they should be getting you a different truck.  You should also be getting a rental car under the warranty, but the stated rate will get a Cavalier or similar, not of much use to Yukon XL or 2500HD buyers.

Good luck and keep us posted.

Got my Yukon XL back  :D

17 days it took to hopefully fix it..

The reason it took so long was they (dealer) needed to dupilicate the problem several times and take snapshots with a scan tool...Which told them everything was ok every time.

When I brought it in I said either the engine is dropping cylinders or the something is wrong with the brakes possibly the ABS.  Once when it acted up on me I braked and pulled off the highway and the steering wheel and the whole vehicle shook worse.  I got out and the brakes really stunk and the front wheels were very hot.  You think they listened to me.

OK they checked everything from Oxygen Sensors it has four, to a transmission sensor this went on and on then one day they put the truck in Nuetral and turned off the key while it was acting up goin down the highway and nothing changed still shook and vibrated.  Then started back up and it continued to vibrate.  So that elminated engine and electrical then they started to look at the drivetrain.  Swapped wheels out etc.   THEN the area rep showed up took it out with the service manager got it to act up the Rep says pull up on the brake pedal and the problem went away. He let go of it and it came back etc.

BAD brake booster, so got a new booster and hopefully that was it.  Wish they would have checked brake system sooner.

Now hopefully the pads and rotors will not prematurely wear out etc.  I pitched a fit because they did not repace them they said they checked out ok.  They put 500mi on to troubleshoot this and I had to ask for a full tank of gas which full when I brought it in.

So now Monday morning it is time to deal with customer service etc. to see what I can get....

I'd really push hard for new brakes. The excessive heat that was put to them cold have warped the rotors slightly which will just get worse over time.
