Transmission Swap

I have a 1997 Chevy 4x4 Pickup, regular cab, short bed.  It has a 350 engine with a 5-speed manual transmission.  I love the truck, but the manual tranny is becoming a problem.  My wife can't drive it, and it's a pain to drive in traffic.  How feasible would it be to swap it with an automatic transmission?I would trade it in for another truck exactly the same, but it will end up costing me at least a couple thousand; if I can find one in as good shape as mine.  Any info would be appreciated.

I had the same problem as you do...real nice truck but didn't want the 5 spd anymore. There is alot involved in the tranny switch and I couldn't get my tranny guy to touch it. The expense was far too much for the conversion and I ended up trading it in for one with an auto. Had we been able to come up with a solution and did the switch I'd still have that truck to this day
