5.3L Automatic Transmission Fluid

I have a question regarding the transmission fluid level on my 5.3 automatic 4by4 Sierra.  I took it for a 40KM ride yesterday and when I got back I let it sit for 30 min then went out to check it .  I started it ran it through all the gears and then went to check it The level should be between the the two holes beacause it was hot.  But it is not, just below the first hole I went to my dealer and he said it was ok but I still think it is a little low can someone clarify this?? By the way the truck is brand new 400KM I love it it's awsome Thanks in advance!

Was the truck on level ground?  If the front end is slightly higher, the reading will seem to be low.  If it is on level ground, then that is definitely low.  With it being hot, it should be very close to the top hole.
