Save $ on Allison Spin-on filters

Recommended Posts

Allison recommends replacement of their transmission's spin-on filter every 5,000 miles.  This new filter part number 29539579 (which replaces part number 29537268) is a dealer only part which cannot be currently purchased at a regular parts store.  I recently purchased on at a Chevy dealership and was charged $35.  I have learned that they can be ordered through a local Allison dealer for $9.76 plus shipping and tax .... needless to say I have 6 on order!   If you do not know how to find an Allison dealer you can check:

As you can see, the effort to buy from Allison is well worth it.

Just learned today from a friend who is a dealership mechanic and who just attended Allison transmission training that this spin on filter should be changed at every engine oil change.  This is not the information provided in the owner's manual and would appear to be important information for all owners of HD's equiped with Allison transmissions.
