exhaust stinks!!

My wife and I parked the truck after a ride last night. When she opened the door to get out she said "Your truck stinks, what is that?" I noticed it too.

My exhaust is pretty stinky...what do you guys think is causing it? Bad cat?

I dont know what the problem is my dad has an 89 and it does the same thing every time he parks it. I think that he took it in to the local dealership but they couldnt figure it out. ???

do you do a lot of off-roading or drive through mud. Because that will cause quite a stink. The muddy burning on the hot pipes will make a horrible smell. Just a thought. I'd say maybe it's your engine, but you'd probably see some smoke. Look for mud, oil, or something on your pipes and muffler.

No, it's definitely exhaust fumes from the tail pipe. I notice it when I start it up in the morning to warm up as well.

I'm certainly not an expert, but my first thought is that a cat is not doing its job.

Does it smell rotten egg? If you're not getting an SES light and code, then seems less likely it's the combustion, etc.

Does anyone know offhand if there is an O2 sniffer after the cat? I doubt it but don't know.

I notice my exhaust stinks worse when first started in the morning, but I guess that's normal as the cats aren't warm yet - hey, is the smell the same after the engine warms up?

Ya, even after a ride and up to normal temp it stinks. No engine lights or anything yet. Looks like a good excuse for a new exhaust system

Won't be for a while, need to save some dough. I guess I'll have to live with the smell ???

If it is one of the cats, prob. covered under the emissions warranty, unless you have a lot of miles on it.

But, hey definitely a fine excuse for new, better exhaust!!
