Lm7 -> Lq4 Engine Swap

Recommended Posts

Forum,

I have a 2003 GMC Sierra 1500 (Reg/Short Bed/2WD). I love this truck and it's a daily driver. I've kept the modification to a minimum over the years, cat-back (thrustmaster 40), chip and K&N filters. I'm extremely happy with the performance and mileage (20+ MPG).

I almost traded in last year after an accident (cosmetic only), but after seeing it all shining with it's bright red paint, I didn't. Thank goodness.

However, it just passed 100k. I've always treated it like a toy, but now it's time to really make it a real toy.

I've been looking at an engine swap for some time now and had thought of swapping in an LS1 with a Richmond 6-speed tranny, but I just recently seen where a LQ4 block is identical to the LM7. This seems to be a better option with minimal changes to the truck itself. I can work in the Richmond at a later time.

My question is who has actually done this swap and what are the pitfalls?

Thanks in advanced for any input.
