gwjr76
I have a 2006 2WD GMC SLT Sierra Crew Cab. Four days ago I upgraded from my stock 17" wheels and got new 20" wheels and 275/55 tires put on it. Now the truck shakes like crazy when I brake. I took the truck back to the tire place when I originally had them installed, and they said my rotors are probably warped. I do not see this as being possible because I just had my rotors turned 2 months ago. Has anyone else seen this when installing larger wheels/tires? What can I do to resolve the problem? 03blackz71
remove the clips off of the rear brakes. The clips are mounted on the studs to hold the brakes on while the truck is getting assembled at the factory. The factory rims have cut outs for them but aftermarket ones don't so the wheel doesn't sit flush. This will cause a vibration like you have. I would remove the rear wheels and remove the clips!! That's the first thing I would do. If that doesn't work, I'd check to see if the new wheels are hub-centric, or lug-centric. If they are lug-centric, and you still have the vibration, you may need to buy adapters.

That was it!!! There were 2 on each side of the rear brakes. Removed all 4 of them and now the vibration is gone. It is amazing how 2 small things can just give you hell!!! Thanks 07blackz71! BIGDOG44
I was having the same trouble with my wheels the whole truck shook went up one size 18's on my 2006 Silverado Crew Cab. Took it back a so they could balance the wheels twice, but still didn't work. They said it was the rotors or the front end that needed work, I told them that there was no way it could be that, it was running okay with the stock rims. Just happened to come across this site sure glad I found it well my son found it. I was pretty frustrated already. Thanks for the Info. guys it worked can't believe those keepers can do that to a truck....

I am so happy now. I had the same problem. When I would break the ass end of the truck would shake like crazy. It was driving me nuts. I thought that it was my drums, or the tires were off ballanced. I didn't know what to do. Today I took the clips off and it solved my problem. It breaks like a champ now. Thank you so much you saved me alot of headache. twday87
I got new wheels and tires and I'm having a shaking around like 65-70 mph i've gotten them balanced like 3 times now i have Equal in them for balance. I got a new rim because one was out of round but it still is doing it. It also shakes when I hit the breaks. Where are those clips on the breaks? Anyone have a picture? Take the wheel off and look at the lugs. It's on there to hold the drum or rotor in place during assembly.
