Peripheral Ipod Integration

Recommended Posts

I got tired of waiting on GM's PAL connector and used a Best Buy gift card to buy Peripheral's PXAMG with harness kit. Kit came complete with everything need for the install, except for out dated instructions (new ones were available online.)

Install went well, once I had correct instructions. Plenty of room for the unit behind the factory stereo.

My general impression is that when it works it works well. It is quirky though, especially unplugging or switching to the iPod. In these cases it won't fully access the iPod except to play all the songs (all 2,9XX of them it takes a while to scroll through these), it will allow skipping to the next or previous, but that is all. Under normal operating conditions it allows all normal iPod control. It seems primitive in general use but, considering what its doing I find it acceptable.

Things I'd change:

1) Shuffle/random. I'd like this since my playlist contains several albums that I don't want to hear in order.

2) Scroll text. (See 4.)

3) Ditch the XM displayed at the left of the screen.

4) Display Artist AND Track title in scrolling fashion.

I can offer any advice about use or install based on my experience, limited right now.

I put one in my truck as well. The interface through the radio is about useless trying to navigate my collection though. There's just too much to scroll through with 12.5k songs. Luckily it has the AUX method as well, so i still get good use out of it. I can use the ipod itself to navigate and i still get the sound quality of the direct connect and my ipod stays charged.

PS. to cutoff anyone that wants to have that fight, my rips are legit, i have the 6 large boxes of CDs in the basement to prove it
