95' Chevy K1500 Speedo Recalibration Needed

Recommended Posts

Hello, I have a 1995 chevrolet k1500 z71 silverado. I installed new 37" tires and 4:88 gears. Of course the speedometer is off now, but I checked and bought a superlift recalibration unit for it. Big mistake, Only jet and superlift make one that I know of. And come to find out neither will work with 4:88 gears. I looked into a new speedo gear but cannot find one for my size gears.

Anyone have suggestions?

Is it worth getting a prom chip custom made for the pcm if that will even work for my gears?

I have a msd full offroad ignition system, 4:88 gears, headers, no cats, full true dual exhaust with flowmasters, cold air intake and tbi spacer.

I was told that I could buy a buffer for the speed unit and then run the recalibration unit, to find a buffer at a gm dealership for at least 4:10 gears and then hook it up and they said that would work. But I cant wait to find out what in the world the buffer is and how much more it willcost. Why couldnt have gm started ob2 in 1995 lol.

Hey save your money and get a handheld programmer for your truck. Hypertech superchips or diablo make them and they can be tailored for your tire size and speedo correction. They are simple yes and no questions takes 10-15 minutes.

1996 federal mandate for OBDII technology. 95 vehicles have an OBDI setup, which means there are no programers available. it is a gear in the transmission.

I know that progammers will not work as mine is a 95' so it has obd1 you cannot do a programmer.

And the 2 recalibration units I found would not work with 4:88 gears. However I know I could toy with the actual drive gear on the tranny, but are they able to custom make a prom chip for my computer to fix it?
