Nice ride, what are you getting for Mpg?

To me it looks like it's rusting from the inside out. Which makes the cure a little more difficult.

If it's been undercoated you may have pockets of water/condensation between the coat and body metal.

See if you can look behind these spots to check for rust.

In any case, inside or surface, you'd still have to get back to good metal, to effect a proper repair.

last summer i was getting 12.1mpg, then i put the 265's on and since that over the winter i was getting 10.4mpg its bumped back up some now to 10.7 hopefully to get higher once it starts to get warmer. and the rust there is actuallt on the tailgate, but is located allover the truck as well. truck was never undercoated.

The larger tire is part of the problem, earlier today I was reading a post about tires, and how 255's and 265's will decrease mileage from 1 to 3mpg, sidewall strength also plays a part.

If I run across it again I'll steer you over there.

It is a shame about that paint job, could of been a bad primer job at the factory.

Check the back of your manual, paint might have a longer warranty than 3/36, if it does, call GM customer service to help.

yea rust is my biggest fear on this truck. my 97 chevy z71 had alot of rust and thats why i wanted to get rid of it. there is rust on a bunch of other spots on the truck, all little spots. and the rails under the bed are pealing a good amount. I really hat rust and and its my biggest fear on all my vehicles.

great looking truck. Gotta love the HDs. The 6.0L can sound like a beast with aftermarket exhaust. & 10mpg? damn mine gets 12.4 & I bitch about it :D

I think for that rust that needs to be repainted, or if it is from inside to out its ti me for a new panel.

the truck is great, and i hate to say that the rust spots are ALL over and i mean EVERYWHERE! A exhaust is on my todo list just dont have any money for one. i was getting 12.1 mpg in the summer. what size tires are you running, gearing and what mods do you have that might be helping with the gas?

Nice ride! as you can see in my sig i have pretty much the same truck but a chevy, i'm running 285's and i range from 11-14mpg tops!! and thats with a 3:73 rear!, anybody who tells you there getting over 15 with a 6.0 is only fooling themselvs! and i've done the math manualy many of times. Not sure if your looking for a loud or mellow exhaust but i run magnaflow, and it has a nice mellow tone. Not sure about your rust issue, sounds like something went wrong at the factory, its always worth a shot to see if GM will at least help pay for a repaint, not likely but worth a shot! good luck! enjoy!

265/75/R16 Bridgestone Duelers at 40psi, 4.10 gears, feather light on the gas, and no mods, all stock but for the exhaust which killed economy 0.4mpg

im feathering my gas as much as possible as well, to the point where if i let off more i will begin to slow. the exhaust hurt your gas mileage? i would have thought it would increased it. what exactly does the 4.10 gears do? i was looking over my dealer tag that it has, and it says i have 3.73 i believe. also i was looking over the rust warrenty and it says something like 30,000 miles or 6 years. and the truck has 129,000 on it so i guess it is all on me to get it fixed.

also joey. the chicks love the truck especially my girlfriend, but unfortunately i go to community college so no fraternity's but i do get to have GREAT times with my friends lol.

does anyone think if i get a programmer that it will help with power, and fuel?

i dont iwant a rediculously loud exhaust just something with a little more thump to it. and im not sure what you mean by little flakes. it is like the paint is turning orange. so the rust is from the inside right? ill take some more pictures when i get home if it isnt raining to hard out.
