Got my BlackBear tune installed on Saturday & as was expected, my SES light came on & I needed the crank relearn. Justin had sent some detailed instructions on what to do & how to install the tune. Rather than having to pay someone $85 or so to do the relearn, the software Justin sent with the scan cable was able to do it. After warming the truck to normal operating temperature, I followed his instructions for the relearn & within seconds, the relearn was done & the SES light went off & the truck was purring like a kitten...nice & smooth!

Took it for a ride & was surprised at the difference! Under light acceleration as in daily driving, the truck moves effortlessly & not like something was weighing it down as it did before. Shifts are firmer, without the small lag after shifts, but not bone jarring. It is a constant pull now through all the gears.

The only WOT run I did was from a roll of about 25-30 mph. HOLY SHEEIIIITTTT! It pinned me in my seat & flew! It down shifted quickly & pulled REALLY HARD through all the gears until I finally let off it a few seconds later at about 90 mph, at which point, it was still pulling & accelerating hard!

I can't wait to get my boat out of the shop so I can try it towing...if the regular side of the tune is any indication of the towing side of it...it should tow ALOT better!

I will post back in about a week on how my mileage is going...hoping for a little improvement there also!

For those wondering, I told Justin I am running only 87 octane & was not interested in turning my 4.8 truck into a hot rod. I just told him I wanted optimal performance & wanted the tow/haul button to be kept for towing since I tow my bass boat on weekends.

To me, the fact that his software & scan cable he sends out allows him to see exactly what your PCM is doing before he makes any changes makes the BlackBear tune the way to go! Plus the fact that I was able to do the relearn right on the spot without having to find a dealer or someone with a scanner & pay close to another $100 to have it done!

congrats! i believe that justin left your tow haul button stock. in other words there will be no performance gain from using your tow haul button. when you activate it you simply will return to the stock trans and fuel trim settings for the tow haul button. this is what he suggested when i did my tune.

The engine changes are still there in tow/haul mode. The tow/haul button affects shift points, TCC settings, and shift pressures.

With those settings left relatively stock, the shift patterns will be the same as they were before the tune, but the power gains should be just the same.
