Cash To Spend

Hey Everyone!

I'm a new guy to this site and I'm deployed to Afghanistan right now, however I'll be back to the states in a couple months with some cash to spend on my truck. I've got a 2004 GMC Sierra RC SB with the 5.3L that is bone stock. I'm looking to spend $2,000-4,000 on my truck with most of that being for the engine. The only real goal I have is to get in the 13's in the quarter. I'm open to any suggestions and Ideas for performance upgrades. Thank for any help and let me know if you need any more details.

The STS system looks pretty good, but how does it hold up against a supercharger. I don't have any experence with either one, just trying to figure which one is the best buy for the money. Could I just run the STS Turbo by itself or would I need to upgrade my cam or any other major componets? I assume I would need an upgraded exhaust system and a new tune, anything else though? Thanks for the suggestions!

Depends on what you want to go with. Any power adder will require a new Tranny.

I would start from the rear end, driveline, convert to a 4l80E, 2800 stall, then work on engine.

first job, Ported heads with valvetrain upgrades, z06 cam, headers, intake, exhaust, and good tune should net you somehwere around 80hp to the wheels. with that done then you should opt for the turbo from STS upgrade the fuel system and think about porting the intake manifold. Everything i said should work fine with the turbo setup at the end. This should put you well into the 12's with the right tires. around 550 - 650hp to the wheels.

now the difference in supercharger and turbo is how efficient they are.

Turbo takes time to spool up and does not have parasitic loss like a supercharger

but the supercharger gives you torque right off the line no spooling needed.

Heat is what kills the Superchargers also belt slip.

I would more but im to tired. Will do tomarrow.

This sounds like a good list but I would think going that route would cost a lot more than $4000. A legit forced induction system usually costs more than that alone. I would most likely skip the blower and build the engine as hard as possible.

depends on how much power your adding....supercharger....would definetly recomend a trans build but not for a tune and other non extreme power adders

A power adder is a turbo, supercharger, and nitros. Anything else makes the engine more efficient and is not considered a power adder.

From what ive seen the 60E is at the maximum it can handle with the weight of the truck and power, anything more then stock your looking for trouble. Yes i will still handle it but reliability is down the crapper.

the 4l60E just sucks as a tranny. The 80E is the best and can handle 450hp stock, a well built one will handle about 900hp and about 800tq without problems.
