Supercharger On A 6.0

Are you using stock tune/programming? If so I wouldnt go over 7PSI. I have seen up to 8-9PSI on stock motors before the belt starts to slip. The tranny will hold fine.

Im with him. 8 pounds max is what you want on the engine, but your tranny's life will be shortened. Even the 80 cant handle an extra 100+hp/TQ.

I am assuming you have the LQ4 6.0L with the 80E. I wouldn't hesitate to put 8psi on it and still be well within the safety margin. Since you are looking for boost, there are a host of supporting mods that will be required for a supercharger / turbo such as fuel pump upgrade, injectors and a mandatory going over of your PCM. I would not shift any higher than 6100 on the stock bottom end of the LQ4 unless you do some performance rod bolts (ARP, Kaytech). A mandatory modification to the stock motor is to PIN YOU CRANK PULLEY. I wouldn't even think of adding a supercharger without doing this.

I did a write-up on this over at silveradoSS.com -->Crank shaft pulley pinning LINK

If you don't do this, the pulley will spin on the crank and destroy the crank, cause vibration and ultimately engine failure if not addressed. Not to mention you will be losing boost.

What system are you looking to do? I feel 10 psi is the limit for a stock LQ4 if you want any kind of longevity out of it.

FWIW, I know of several LQ-9 and LQ-4 motors (STOCK) with up to 15PSI. With a spot on tune and AFR, colder plugs and the propper intercooler / meth injection, it can be done but don't think it will live for 100K with no issues.

I run 8-9psi on my LQ9 (making 525-550 RWHP).

EDIT: I see you are using powerdyne. Is it intercooled? Please see my reference to crank shaft pulley pinning!!!

Chris, sounds like 8-9psi and pinning your crank is top priority. I would think an intercooler would be a good mod too.

All the guys here know what they're talking about, we'll start adding boost and bigger injectors once we get the custom OS running on there so we can get a better tune than that FMU.
