Losing Pressure At Fuel Filter?

Recommended Posts

Several times in the past six months my truck dies shortly after starting. The first time I finally figured out that pumping up the fuel filter would fix the problem. It has happened after sitting over night (14 hrs), sitting during work (8 hrs) and after just a couple hours and during CA summer and fall. So sitting time and temperature don't seem to be a factor.

What's going on?

I heard of someone else having this issue, they found out that their fuel system was losing it's prime because a seal was leaking.

i saw this at work, you may need a new filter housing assembly, and there is no pressure at the filter ,the low side suction pump is in the injection pump,so keep your filter new ,there is a test port by the alternator we use with a vacumn gauge ,spec is 3" max ,I saw a truck with 12 " of vacumn,i feel it stresses the pump, and you don't want to try and replace that thing,if the housing isn't the prob, chk at the tank where the fuel line tend to rub on the fiber hose part on a bracket near frt of tank,if that is ok,you may need a pump.

Besides the fuel filter or prime pump assm you may have a excessive fuel return or fuel leaking into the crankcase. There are special j-tools to test for this concern take it to the dealer because 80% of the time it's the injectors which are covered under a special policy.

I agree rodger ,either way mark you need to take it in to a dealer ,,with the scanner they can check evry thing to diag your concern, along with the vacumn gauge, plse do not attempt to repair this yourself,,keep us informed
