Try this with your shortbed or Av

Well I had to move a gate today, and I happened to have my camera with me as well.  This is only an 18' gate, but stuffed in an 8' bed, imagine adding two or four feet to this for some of the ones we also haul around.  Much larger than that we gotta use a tractor, they get quite heavy and very awkward (as if this one isn't!).  Notice the bale of straw required to hold down the front and keep the back end off the ground, as well as how it is nicely wedged between the wheelwells.  You can also notice the nice bow to the gate, compliments of a pissed off cow.

Is this considered working?  I think so, even though it isn't testing the drivetrain too much.

JP, next time I am up your way I will be glad to show you how to do that with my 8.1" bed on my AV - piece of cake.

You don't know how much I would LOVE to see that.  For some reason though, I don't think its going to happen....

I'm sure Jack could move his big gate in that 8.1 foot bed if he needs too.  I know when I move my big gate, I usually just...oh wait...I don't have my big gate anymore.  Looks like my short bed will work out ok for me after all.   :D    ;)

You know I'm just funnin' with you, don't you JP?

Yeah I kick myself for buying a short-bed everytime I have to move a 20 ft section of gate!!

Actually you could move that just fine in a short bed.  Put the tailgate up and let the front rest down against the bottom front of the bed wall.  Throw a couple sandbags on the front, strap the back end to the rear cargo loops and go.  Of course neither bed length would make it safe to haul that on the open road for any distance.

Seriously though JP, interesting photos you've been posting.  Keep 'em coming.  I'd enjoy seeing some more snapshots of your stock and farm equipment.

Yeah, if we farmed like the rest of my wife's family, I'm sure we'd have a long bed ext. cab or crecab pickup, too.  However, my current gig is in downtown Detroit and I'm glad I have only 220" in total length when parking in a structure and still have a 8' bed available when necessary.

JP, let me understand this, you don't think it could do it?

Since I couldn't find the specs for your year I used the 2001's and at best you have 50" between wheel housings, I have 49", might have to prop it up on a couple of blocks - big deal.

As to bed length we have the same 97.6"

My 8.1L out of the box can handle 12000lbs - and even you would give me the advantage over the 5700 with the same gears. Then again there is the extra 40% HP that the SC gives me.

what is the big deal here?
