Why we don't have a dually

In an earlier post, with the GN trailer, a question came up why we don't have a dually to use for hauling around our trailer.  Well this picture pretty well shows one reason why a dually won't work.  Those are soybeans planted in 18" rows, and not very fun to drive through.  Not much room for error without killing off some plants.  But yes, the truck does fit down the rows.

I don't know if your truck is the same as my 2000 4X4 silverado as far as wheel base but my front wheel base was 4 inches wider then my back wheel base. I was told this has to do with the 4x4 only because chevy was to cheap to make a different rearend for it and used the same one they use for there 2 wheel drive.  When adding the 4x4 in the front it widens the stance 2 inches on each side.  Therefor my back tires in deep mud or snow would slide over to one of the front tire grooves and the other side back tire would have to cut its own track or should I say widen the front one out.   I bought some heavy duty 2" spacers for the back so they would track the same as the front. Boy did that make a difference. This might help save some crops.

Yeah, I don't like those offset tracking on the wheels front to rear much either, but we live with it.  So far it hasn't caused a great deal of grief for us, both axles track down rows fine, can't attribute any of our stucks to it (usually some other factor causes us to get bogged down in mud before axle drag).  I'm a bit leary of putting spacers in there with the heavy loads we tow with the gooseneck, just afraid how much leverage that might add on.
